Ava's Corner is dedicated to my beautiful granddaughter, Ava Marie, and all the other children out there that have been stricken with the absolutely terrible disease of cancer.
Ava Marie was born on April 16th, 2020. A beautiful healthy big baby girl she was! When Ava was 7 months old, she became sick with a high fever that just would not go away. She went to our local St. Jude affiliate hospital here in Illinois where they took such amazing care of her and her parents. A large mass was found in Ava's liver. It was a malignant rhabdoid tumor. These tumors are extremely rare and where it began in her liver is even more rare. Ava was given a 5% survival with chemotherapy. We were all simply devastated with this news. We were praying for a miracle!
Ava was in and out of St. Jude for the next 2-3 months. At first chemo was working but then it wasn't anymore. By the end of February, the doctor told her parents to take her home and make her comfortable. Michael and Kamryn took their precious baby home and made some wonderful memories with her 2 year old brother Knox that will last for the rest of their lives. Ava passed away on Good Friday, April 2nd, 2021. She missed her 1st birthday by two weeks. There's not a day that goes by that we aren't thinking of her, wishing she was with us.
I created Ava's Corner to help spread the awareness of Childhood Cancer. A portion of the proceeds sold from Ava's Corner will be donated to St. Jude. Did you know that less than 4% of government funding is allocated towards treating Childhood Cancer? Forty three children are diagnosed with cancer each day in the United States. Your purchase from Ava's Corner goes towards helping other children just like Ava.
